    2023 Offseason Thread

Might not be able to afford them if they go thru with that trade.

And for that Booker/KD deal…if he learned anything in BK, it’s better to not cheap out at the 5 spot or go for low quality player there as a starter, because it’d be a matter of time before HE playing some time there and at this point in his career/age, that might not be best for him.

If I’m them, I’d keep Ayton and see what he can do under Vogel. We’ve seen it before where guys have responded better to a new voice and maybe that’s what he needs.

Sounds like Washington is deciding between Lowry, Oladipo, and Jovic or CP3 and Shamet at the moment.

Really testing how desperate Washington is to be rid of that contract because they almost literally aren’t getting a single actual asset.

I wasn’t expecting a big return but I’m honestly shocked how crazy low this is.

They should've never signed him to that horrendous extension. SMDH

Now they gotta take a "low-ball" offer to get out of that deal. Tommy Shepard should never get another GM gig, again.

They put themselves in this situation. Its a new regime trying to clean up what the previous regime left them.

But I don't know what the hell Phoenix is doing in these trade discussions.

My best guess is that they know KD gets restless and won't be on the roster long, so they are going all out on winning a championship now and I guess even if Beal isn't a great fit, he's an all star caliber player they can acquire easily. The luxury tax isn't scaring them off for going all in on a title.

Still though, really think they would be better off building around KD and Booker, not adding a third pillar. I think these past few seasons has demonstrated that the best recipe for a trophy is a batman and robin with a good supporting cast, not a top heavy team with limited depth.

I don’t know who the team is going to be, but several teams are destined to make trades this offseason that sets the team back multiple years trying to win now.

Should've traded Beal after they traded Westbrook. They could have got a good haul for him after that good season. Now, they're just getting off that contract. Now, it seems like if you're Washington, you're best asset return is if he wants to go to Miami and they're willing to trade Herro and Robinson.

NTC is something teams will try to avoid going forward. You're in a position where the player can have the team over the barrel and have the team accept a terrible deal, or you just hold on to the player.

Saying they should’ve never signed him is thinking only from a strictly basketball perspective.

When you have to take the business side into consideration, it’s never as straight forward as you think.

Nah, Beal won't change how teams feel about giving NTC into contracts.

I don't think it limits their options that much because I don't think a team would give up too much for a guy that doesn't want to play for them. Besides, this seems to be a fairly amicable split and not a drawn out saga like Ben Simmons.

(well its been drawn in the sense that Beal has been involved in trade rumors for years now, but there hasn't been drama with it)

                  .

"BREAKING: The Washington Wizards are finalizing a trade to send All-Star G Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns, sources tell ESPN. Beal’s waiving his no-trade to form a new Big 3 with Devin Booker and Kevin Durant. Teams are still working thru framework, but Beal is headed to Suns.
Suns are expected to send Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, multiple second-round picks and pick swaps to Wizards, sources tell ESPN. Phoenix has no available first-rounders to include in trade. Beal’s no-trade limited Wizards’ marketplace. Deal could take a few days to be finalized."

Chris Paul, Shamet, and 2nd round picks [emoji23].

Beal must have preferred Phoenix or Miami unwilling to give up any firsts.

Does Chris Paul even stay with Washington?

Wow, I didn't really expect Beal to go to the Suns.

Essentially a salary dump and likely CP3 will get waived. Especially how the new CBA will be, we're going to see how limited the Suns will be to fill out roster.

Some of the articles I’ve read from Fischer and others were that Miami wanted to wait a little bit to see what would happen with Dame in the event something changes there.

I’m guessing the new Basketball Ops in DC was weren’t willing to wait that long and Phoenix was ready to do something now, especially with how aggressive new Ownership has been.

Makes sense when consider how quickly this came together.

Washington likely doesn't want to win, so I see them waiving CP3

I also see both Kuzma and Porzingis opting up

Are they gonna go small or run Bradley at the 1? This move makes no sense but I guess Phoenix wants to "outscore" everyone. [emoji2377]

Didn't work this last season, so I guess they'll just try again.

Good on them for not adding Ayton in the deal and giving Washington a lowball offer. Man, Tommy Sheppard should never have a GM position, again.
