Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Skyrim Ships Over 7 Million Copies
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has only been out since Friday, but according to Zenimax, seven million copies of the RPG have already shipped, and the launch is expected to generate more than $450 million in global retail sales. You can practically hear the champagne corks popping from here.
More than half of the launch units were sold in the first 48 hours after release, and Bethesda Softworks says it has been "receiving large reorders from major retailers in North America, and across Europe and Australia."
On Steam, Skyrim set a record with over 280,000 concurrent players in its first 48 hours of release.
“We are grateful for the fans’ response to Skyrim,” said Robert Altman, Chairman and CEO of ZeniMax Media. “Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda Game Studios have crafted a very special game. Anticipation for Skyrim has surpassed any game in our company’s history, and we are pleased that sales and reviews have reflected the quality and hours of amazing gameplay it provides.”

SpoilerBeing a walking WMD?
Nah, I really haven't found any downside (other than when you travel too close to a town and have to slaughter the whole population because they come running with pitchforks and try to kill you).
It's just a once-a-day power like anything else, so it doesn't seem to have any huge negative effects like vampirism.
On the flip side, I can think of lots of bonuses. For one, killing an entire town and they don't know it's youComment

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I'm putting this out there for everyone. I'm debating whether I should finish Oblivion or just go out and get Skyrim. Any thoughts? Is it good for story purposes or anything to finish Oblivion first? I love the game but, man, I am like a level 28 battlemage and have hardly done any of the main quest. I have a feeling I could be at this for a long time because there is just so much crap to do.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
What's your overall level? I want to get my smithing to 100 to just get the Daedric armor, but I'm afraid that my combat skills and such would be too far behind to do that right now without getting my *** handed to me.Comment

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
The ability to tie smithing into upgrading weapons and armor really helps negate a lot of that. Granted, you don't get a lot of the extra perks yet like faster attack speeds or anything like that, but if you can crank that weapon or armor up to more than double what it's original damage/mitigation value was, your skills aren't quite as important.
Personally, I've really had a blast blowing up smithing quickly and almost over-gearing myself. By the time I went and faced my first real dungeon I was practically 1-hitting monsters.Comment

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Hmm, alright, that's good to know. It'll be nice to have some awesome Daedric armor for most of the game instead of towards the middle/end.Comment

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
That being said, you could just absolutely blast through the main quest and finish it in a day or two and not do a lot of the side quest stuff. Personally, if it were me, I'd move on to Skyrim immediately. Oblivion was great, but that was almost 6 years ago.
That's an eternity in game years, and the engine really shows its age when compared to Skyrim.Comment

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Level 12 and still making my way to High Hrothgar, I enjoy clearing out random dungeons way too much lol.
Sad that I can't wait to finish doing a majority of the game with my mage then starting over and being a warrior killing everyone lolSaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Now I just gotta farm some more ebony ore and get a couple more daedric hearts so I can craft a daedric warhammer
EDIT: Scratch that. Armor rating is now 404. Forgot to upgrade the gauntlets at the workbench. I now have a full set of Legendary Daedric armor, along with a Legendary Daedric Warhammer that deals 90 damage. It's gonna be hard to ditch my Orcish Warhammer of Ice that deals 76 damage along with 15 points of frost damage, but the Daedric Warhammer looks so awesome.Last edited by Kearnzo; 11-16-2011, 07:48 PM.Comment

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
That's a really tough question. Oblivion is only referred to once in a while in Skyrim. It's set 200 years AFTER the events in Oblivion, so most of the citizens in the world have no clue what happened. I wouldn't think it's highly important to finish.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I found my new follower. I am wondering if some of you did this quest?
Spoiler - Follower came from a quest from the Hall of the Dead in Markath.
SpoilerDid you let the person who was causing trouble in the Hall live?
SpoilerIf you did, she is a great follower. She told me to meet me in front of the cave. As I was fighting with her I notice she was making all we killed into zombies. She also summoned Frost demons. I did whatever it took to make her into a follower. Which meant becoming a cannibal. Oh well, the perk is awesome. If you kill someone you get a choice to eat them. If you do, your health and health regen goes up for a limited time. Plus I got a follower that compliments my tank.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I appreciate the feedback. I was leaning towards picking up Skyrim rather than finishing Oblivion. I was kind of curious about others' opinions though. I picked up the anniversary edition of Oblivion a month or two ago. I can always finish it later despite its age. I've done it before with other game series that I've enjoyed playing, like Mass Effect and KOTOR.
That said, if you are just going to blow through Oblivion to get to Skyrim anyway, I wouldn't bother...the beauty of these games are their scope and depth. Purely from a story perspective, there is no reason at all to finish Oblivion first. In addition to the fact that the events happened so long ago in the game world, there are TONS of books that lay out the history of the world in as much detail as you're willing to read through. In fact, there is a book in Skyrim that specifically covers the point-by-point events (in general terms) of the main questline of Oblivion.
If you decide to play Oblivion first (and I would recommend this whenever you decide you want to pick it up again), what you might want to do is skip the main story altogether and play some of the faction lines instead. They are really well done and might be a good way to introduce you to how the world of Skyrim will generally work.Comment

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I ran into another quest bug, it was a bounty to go somewhere and kill the bandit leader, but when I got there the place was full of random warriors labeled as "guards" with one marked for the quest, all non-hostile. I walked up to him, smote him with my Dwarven Greatsword, fool didn't even try to defend himself. None of his friends cared and it didn't count as an assault or murder.
I also thwarted an assassinSpoilerWalking along I notice some guy standing by the side of the road, I walk over to say hi and the guy draws his weapon and starts some Yoda impression, twirling around like an imbicile, so I was forced to cleave him with a couple of mighty swings. On his corpse he held an order through the Dark Brotherhood saying that somebody wanted "this fool" dead, so I made sure to hang his dead body from the walls of Whiterun as a warning of what happens when you come at me.Comment
