    Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Down about 40 pounds since I started near the end of February. A few hiccups here and there but Im getting the hang of it.

Also I get what underthebar is saying about cheat meals and having no need for them if you balance your cals versus your exercise. I also get what he means by there being no clean foods in spirit; but you have to admit some foods are significantly healthier to eat than others. I dont have cheat meals like mcdonalds or a giant pig out moment at a buffet or anything. When I cheat its usually a larger portion of the healthy options I already eat. But whatever works for you keep it up.

Nicely done man! I've lost 34 lbs since March 18th by completely giving up sodas, junk food and fast food (except for a break down one day and had Raising Cane's lol) and even my beloved pizza. I exercise 6 days a week and usually run/walk on my off day most weeks. Like you, I've resisted a big pig out moment or a buffet. I do sometimes eat some unhealthy things but just portion it out and have steadily been losing throughout.

I'm happier than I've been in years health wise and looking forward to the coming months to see how far I can go. I'm about 9 lbs away from my initial goal weight. Not long after I started, I decided I could take myself even further and go well below 200 lbs, so that's my new goal once i achieve my initial goal.

        Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

So yesterday was a backyard meet here in the Des Moines area. I was pretty nervous going in, as I had a pretty short prep time going in, but since it was unsanctioned I didn't care all too much about not performing well as long as I didn't bomb out. Weight cut was pretty easy. I was at the max weight for my class a week out, was looking to come in light and make a run at best lifter. Ended up weighing in Friday night at 145lbs but not feeling at all drained. One thing I wil be changing for my next meet is taking a week off prior. I had felt all week that I was getting out of my groove, as I had been killing it in training for about 13 straight weeks and my form was as tight as it could possibly get in everything except bench. I lost my handler two days out from the meet so it was going to be hectic getting knees wrapped on squats, that combined with feeling out of the groove and it wasn't looking good. Warm ups felt weird, I hit the bar for 15, 135lbs for 8, 225lbs for a single, wrapped my knees and hit 315lbs for my last warm up. I was still shooting 315lbs off my back a good 4 inches but something just felt off and I couldn't put my finger on it. Also just so happened my division had the most lifters in it :/ Squats One of the elders statesmen from our club was side judging and trying to wrap knees for a couple of guys. It was so hectic that my opener I wrapped one knee, and he wrapped the other. Opened up at 350lbs. Unracked the weight and it felt real light, but I went too wide on my walk out and set up. I burried it bad. I mean my *** almost touched the floor but I was able to recover and got 3 whites. Felt terrible, terrible form, terrible everything but it set the tone as I opened much higher than everybody else in my division. Went up to 380lbs on my second attempt. Unracked and again it felt surprising light on my back. Came down a little too deep again, and then got forward and lost it, no lift. 3rd attempt and trying to remain more upright I wobbled on my way down and my knees caved and missed it again. Terrible start and I was pretty lucky to even be in the meet at this point. Another lifter in my division hit 350lbs on his 4th attempt. He got a 4th because the spotters pulled the weight early on his 3rd. So was tied up after squats. Chances at best lifter went right out the window quick. Bench My bench regressed a ton when I got sick last year. At that time it was my best lift at 305lbs, and I haven't touched anything over 250lbs since. It regressed even more after my wrist surgery last October. Opened up reeeeal conservative at 205lbs, hit that easy. The guy tied with me had the exact same attempts. Went 230lbs next, blasted that up pretty fast as well. Jumped to 250lbs. The other guy missed his attempt and I felt like I had it at that point if I could hit it because deadlifts are my bread and butter. Unracked it felt light, came down pretty tight. Heard the press and I fired it off my chest pretty good. When I got to the transition from lats to triceps I dug my heels pretty hard and got a sharp pain in my left hamstring. I honestly thought I pulled it. Missed the lift, but more importantly I was worried about deadlifting. Deadlift After rolling out for for a while, and a little rapid fire spray for my back and hamstring I started deadlift warmups. Pain in my hamstring was gone, I think I just cramped up. This is where I figured I would pull away as the other guy's opener was 365, mines was 410. Warmups felt easy but even my deadlift felt off, I hit 315 for a double and was ready to go. Came out with a 410lb opener and could tell that I was being watched pretty close by the two closest 148lb'ers and the group they were with. They had seen me bomb my squats with a high opener and I think they were hoping I wasn't for real. My set up was a bit off but I pulled it like a speed pull. The meet was pretty much over at that point. The guy tied with me going into deadlifts hit 415lbs on his second to put a little pressure on me to hit my second attempt. Jumped to 445lbs and felt a tad bit of pressure to hit it to win the meet. I could feel the two closest guys watching me again, and my set up felt much tighter this time. I smashed 445lbs and it came up pretty quick. That was the meet. Jumped to 480lbs to set a pr and missed it just above my knees. Ended up with a 1,025 total at 145lbs. Had I brought my squat with me I would have hit my goals, but I was fortunate to win the 148lb open division. It's nice to have a pretty big deadlift to carry me when my squat is off. My next meet will be at the Iowa State Fair on August 17th. It's a push/pull and I'm going to put whatever I can on my bench and looking to pull 500lbs that day. Here are my two deadlift vids, nothing else was really notable from me for this meet. One of my training partners got 2nd in best lifter at 181lbs. I think I came in 3rd or 4th. 410lb opener https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vTAQMFck-k 445lb 2nd attempt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEyN9l5Hi-w

I'm not sure why it posted that way. It wasn't typed up that way, I had copied from another forum I frequent and it didn't post that way either. I tried to fix it twice and gave up lol. Perhaps a mod can fix it for me?

It's a lot to read through. I've been pretty busy lately but if I get some time I'll try to chop it up for you (not sure who else goes through this thread but if they get to it first have at it).

                Congrats!

So I was just walking around my room the other day and was stepping on some clothes I had on the ground. Next thing i know my knee pops because I must've stepped at a odd angle. It's been a week now and my knee is still not much better. It always cracks when I twist it a little or when I extend it. I notice a little swelling on the outside of the right part of my knee. The thing is that it doesn't hurt... Only sometimes and it's not bad just a lingering feeling like I should crack it. Should i be worried?

                          Weighed and measured today.

                          BMI: 21
                          Height: 74.5 inches tall
                          Weight: 202

Hard to believe I was getting near 230 just a few months ago. My mom and girlfriend have been griping at me saying I need to eat more. Still getting random compliments from friends and family. I don't think I look that different, but I also see myself every day.

I don't even eat all that healthy. I just run a lot.

I'm down to about 187...and that's really with still eating junk.

I'm hoping to clear 180 by the 16th of June, just a goal for a wedding.

Going to be starting the Les Mills' Combat workout routine Thursday or so. Pretty excited because I've been trying to look for an at-home cardio program that's a little more on the "fun" side than the P90X/Insanity cardio and this seems like it'll work out pretty well.

Definitely just want to try and start getting back in shape, cardio-wise, before I worry about changing my diet and adding muscle/strength.
