Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays
Dunno if any of you guys locally listened to Baseball Central but Roger Lajoie got KILLED by Hayhurst when they talked about A-Rod. Normally I think he's being a bit of a jerk when he goes on like that but I take pleasure when anyone exposes Lajoie for the boob he is.
Er um GO JAYS! Let's beat up the Twins. Sounds like for Sunday it's a toss up between Lincoln and a Johnny Full Staff or calling up Romero to pitch which might be disastrous.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays
They were talking about the Yankees and Lajoie basically said A-Rod's career is over and how he's a singles hitter and will get injured within a month of coming back. Hayhurst was making the point that A-Rod is still valuable and has pop in his bat and would be an upgrade over who they've got playing 3rd base. It was pretty comical listening to their exchange.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays
Well that's kind of the point. Getting shut out in a baseball game doesn't exactly give an indication of how good a team is. Last year's Giants team, which was significantly better, still scored 1 run or less 23 times; 2 runs or less 47 times. They only won 7 of those 47 games. One game, even a collection of games isn't going to tell you what a team can or can't do. I mean, if that were the case, when Houston beat New York 9-1 earlier guess that meant the Yanks should have packed it in.
We played a very good Detroit game, one of the most dangerous offensive teams in the league. We were going to give up runs. If they do the same to Cleveland, another good team, but not quite as potent as Detroit, then we still have the same problems. We started last month 4-4 before the winning streak, so losing games is going to happen.
Losing Tuesday's hurt, but personally, I didn't think we were going to touch Scherzer and Verlander is ridiculous against us, so I didn't expect to really have a chance, especially with Johnson pitching in one of those games. If they take 2/3 or the sweep against the Twins, we're still playing like I said in the long *** post. 3 wins actually makes up for the Detroit series where a split as the best case scenario.Comment

Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays
Obviously that game didn't cost us our season and obviously that game doesn't make us a bad team period, I was more speaking towards that game slightly being the epitomization of our season; a train wreck, if you will. I don't think we're good enough to play the stretch of baseball required to make the playoffs, I really don't. That's what I'm speaking to here. More that the game was an embodiment of our season, not that that one game was the difference between us being good or bad. All told, I think our true talent level lies around 85-87 wins. It's just that that isn't really good enough."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays
85-87 could be plenty. Several projections have the 2nd AL wild card at around 87-88 wins. When I did my playout of the rest of the season, I said around 86 is what we could expect. Picking up 2 wins in 2.5 months is not impossible, especially if they actually win the games in the division they need to, those extra wins might not be needed. And the way we've played against Texas, a one-game playoff against them sounds good to me!Comment

Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays
For people who go to games with promotional giveaways....how soon before the game starts, do they usually run out of the giveaways? And is there specific gate(s) I should go to so I can have better shot of getting the giveaway?Comment

Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays
I generally get there about 20 minutes before the gates open (2 hours before GT on weekends, 1 1/2 hours on weekdays) and go to gate 11."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays
Obviously if you get there before gates open they'll have them, but I'm talking about like if I get there an hour before the game starts(12pm on weekends,6pm on weekdays) would they still have stuff?Comment

Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays
Weekdays you'd have a small chance but absolutely not on weekends, I got there at 12 for the Canada Day hat one and they'd been out for an hour and change according to an usher."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Nice to see Jose and Edwin make the All Star team though i'm surprised as heck to see Cecil make it.
See, i'd rather talk about positives rather than today's stinker of a game.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
