I can honestly say that out of all the top teams that I've played against for as long as Pro-Am/Crew has been in the game, that I've never been impressed by the skill level displayed. The games that I've lost, I can never ever remember being wowed by my opponents after losing. It's usually because they can do an unguardable cheese move, or have a team full of the "press Square to win" archetypes that lets them shoot 75% from the coach's box, or grab rebounds over 4 guys and then do a standing contact dunk in a crowded paint, without even having a brain. In 2K16, I remember playing Homicide Gang when they were #1, and they only beat my team of 4 players by 7 points because I knew how to get shots against their lame zone but our CPU player shot 0 for 7. The same year, we played Shoot First whenever they were ranked as a top 10 team, and we beat them by 30+.. Have played many other top 25 teams over the course of 3 years and not once was I ever amazed by anyone on the other team's skill. It was just a cheese fest of limitless 3's behind brick walls.

The only difference in the top teams are who can cheese better, and who has 4 teammates who don't get bored by having to stand in the corner holding charge button for entire games. It's honestly ridiculous the amount of nonsense that goes on in the "top" play of this game that people can get by with. It's sad that the players for the e-league are just going to be players from these top teams that have racked up stats and wins only because they play in the cheesiest of cheese offense with their two 7'3" 3-2 zone defenses.

I basically agree with you about the sadness of almost every top-ranked pro-am team I met in the last two years.

The only notable exception has been an Italian team (the owner actually is a member of OS) I met twice last yer, that was running real bb offensive set and plays and didn't exploit any particular glitch.

I look at games like dota2 and counter strike and you can see clearly and definitely the talent/skill gap between comp games and regular gamers. I look at 2k and there is no such distinct difference if any. The game is not skill dependant as it should be.

Variety is what makes a game successful. Nobody wants to see the same repetitive style repeated over and over because ti gets boring fast. There are 189 archetypes int he game but only about 10-15 are being used and thats not good.

          Suggestions?

Because I hate this as well and my first archetype I made on prelude launch was with the mindset that EVERYONE was gonna have fun and make arcehtypes they liked and not ones they thought could win the most.

Luckily he got deleted and I used the free VC to make a more rounded dude, but man I do wish that the community didn't worry so much about winning and worried more about picking the guy they truly would have fun with. I got a SF I run in walk on and literally everybody I guard is a slashing sharpshooter. Its annoying.

Depends on your playstyle and position. All i see in these so called top teams is most players have sharpshooting in their archetype because "5 out" is the only way they can play and I don't blame them. My first player was a 2way slasher Sf and i abandoned him right away haha. I actually don't even play the game like that anymore because its not fun to me standing at the 3 point line with my pure sharp and if I shoot less than 70% from 3 im considered mediocre in 2k book. Not to mention the terrible defensive ratings i get and people constantly get blowby animation due to my shhhh defense ratings. I don't have the time to make more players.

I'm still betting on the Pure Playmaker build and it's been paying dividends so far - this is the only build I planned on making for the year.

Only gripe is missing some easy layups and mid ranges I feel I should be hitting, but I'm sure that's just the remaining attribute bars 2K is holding back from me for now.

Other than that, no complaints really.

how do you do this "stepback" in the first shot?

or do you just walk backwards and this animation triggers?

I'm glad im not alone when I say the skill gap isn't much.

My team of 3 human and 2 ai players in pro am can compete within 10 points of all the top teams I've played. I won't name names but I've played leaderboard teams and we've annoyed and frustrated them.
Shut down dudes who apparently average 30+, beat teams who apparently win 90% of their games...

It's almost as if they found a way to cherry pick opponents. Because all I see is 5 out, 3-2 zone, cherry picking off of shots and snatch backs.
Once you figure out how to slow that, not stop because you can't stop it, you'll always have a shot.

This game, the only real defense is bump steals and blocks off pump fakes lol which is why I'd never make a defender... The best defense in this game is better offense.

                      Don't agree, sorry.
I pride myself on being a good one-on-one and team defender, despite not having a defensive archetype, and I can guarantee that you can slow down/stop a lot of easy baskets, if you know how to play D.

You didn't see what I said before that?

We lock down 30+ ppg scorers all the time. But at the same time in this game there's not much you're gonna be able to do (even as a defensive archetype) against a 6'10 point forward who's just spamming dribbles or step backs.

At that point you need your help d and hope they can knock the ball loose.

But as far as one on ones go, you're at the mercy of 2k and the animations.

Even a 6'6 dude will have slower speed on defense than a ballhandler with the right build..all they gotta do is run past you and half the time it'll work.

You need good team defense in this game because offense is so heavy..which is why I said better offense is really the best defense.

I'm the same way, I got a 60 something speed pure sharp but I'll finish games with 3 steals and 3 blocks because I know what's up and how to position myself. But there's ways to score and be mostly unguardable if you're willing to stoop that low...top teams don't care, they just want W's...so against them you just gotta outscore and limit turnovers because they understand the defense in this game is all about doubles and bump steals. It's all you see em do..

I'm looking for advice on an archetype for a PG who can run the show in pro-am, although it would be nice to not be useless in the park.

Primary is almost certainly playmaker, but I've been having trouble figuring out a secondary as well as the physical stats. Any ideas?

This would be my 4th character and I am pretty tired of the grind and being able to meet any attribute thresholds by level 88 is a big plus.

PG - 6'5" Pure Sharpshooter (89)- effective but boring and slow
                          SF - 6'8" Shot-creating Slasher (90) - great park build
                          C - 7'3" Glass Cleaner (90) - fantastic everywhere

This is a fact. The defensive controls are like knowing how to operate a car.

Not the best analogy, but if you know, you know.

What's the prioritization of Playmaker for? Is it to speed boost or have elite passing?

I have the following suggestions If you're okay sacrificing the Playmaker archetype:

                              Shot Creating Slasher (Primary)

                              Sharpshooting Slasher (Primary)

Both these builds can run the point and have to be respected on the perimeter and going to the paint as well as at the intermediate range.

I recommend the height between 6ft3 and 6ft7 and weight at default or +/-10

You can see your caps here:

*I suggest these two builds if you're stuck on keeping Playmaker as your Primary:

Shot Creating Playmaker at 6ft4 to 6ft7

Sharpshooting Playmaker between 6ft3 to 6ft7

I’d like to see a graph of what position has the most users

In past 2ks it didn’t seem like there were so many trash point guards
